FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most about Projected.

General

Do I need to install anything?

No. Projected runs in your browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a desktop or laptop.

Can I use Projected on a tablet or phone?

The editor needs a keyboard, a mouse or trackpad and a window at least 700 px wide, so use a desktop or laptop computer.

Is my work saved automatically?

Yes. The editor saves every few seconds, when you switch workspaces and when you leave the page. See Projects & Sketches.

Can I work in feet and square feet?

Not yet. Projected works in metric units for now. Imperial units are coming soon.

Which languages are available?

English and French. Change the interface language in Settings → Profile in the app. Reports and CSV exports follow it.

Data

Where does the site data come from?

Maps and buildings come from Mapbox and OpenStreetMap, cadastral parcels from national datasets, and climate data from the nearest weather station’s typical meteorological year. See Site Intelligence.

Why are there no cadastral parcels for my site?

Parcel data is only available in countries with an open cadastral dataset we support, and only inside the context area. You can always draw the plot yourself.

The surrounding buildings look wrong or are missing. Why?

Context buildings come from OpenStreetMap, whose detail varies from city to city. Import your own 3D model of the surroundings from Site Context → Import 3D File (GLB, OBJ or 3DM).

Who can see my projects?

Only you, unless you turn on a share link. Turning it off revokes access immediately.

Design and analysis

How accurate are the areas?

GFA, FAR and coverage are calculated exactly from your model. GIA and NIA are estimates (95 % and 80 % of GFA) for early-stage studies.

How accurate is the carbon analysis?

It is an early-stage estimate for comparing options, based on your geometry, the site’s climate and typical carbon factors. It does not replace a full whole-life carbon assessment. See Carbon Analysis.

Can I import my own building model?

You can import 3D files (GLB, OBJ, 3DM) as context. To get figures, reports and analyses, model the design with Projected’s buildings and volumes.
